Who we help across Cardiff

Tax Help for Individuals and Businesses in Cardiff

We work with individuals, professionals, landlords, sole traders, directors and small businesses whose tax position needs to be understood before a return, calculation or HMRC response is prepared.

You may fit more than one description. A director can also receive rental income; an employed professional may have consultancy or foreign income; and a sole trader may be deciding whether to form a company. We identify the connected records and direct each part to the right service.

Begin with the facts

Your work, income and ownership usually reveal the right tax route

A job title alone does not determine the service. We look at who received the income, whether a property or company is involved, which period is affected and whether anything has already been filed.

Income
Employment, self-employment, rent, dividends, pensions, gains or overseas sources.
Ownership
Personal ownership, joint ownership, partnership, sole trade or limited company.
Event
An annual filing, a sale, a new business, a company year end or an HMRC letter.
Timing
The tax year, transaction date, filing deadline and any response date already given.

Tax support by client type

Who we help and where each enquiry normally starts

These are starting points rather than rigid categories. Where two positions overlap, the records are reviewed together and the filings remain correctly separated.

01

Personal tax

Individuals and professionals

We help employees, higher earners, doctors, university staff, finance and technology professionals, consultants and people with several income sources. A PAYE salary does not always settle the complete position where there are dividends, benefits, pension contributions, side income or gains.

  • A Self Assessment notice or untaxed income
  • Employment benefits, bonuses, dividends or investments
  • Consultancy income alongside employment
02

Property tax

Landlords and property owners

We help owners of single lets, portfolios, jointly owned property, student accommodation and HMOs. The annual rental position depends on ownership, finance costs and the evidence for repairs and other expenditure. A sale requires a separate gain calculation and reporting review.

  • Rental income and allowable expense schedules
  • Joint ownership, finance costs and missing earlier income
  • A sale, transfer or change in the property structure
03

Working for yourself

Sole traders, freelancers and consultants

We help consultants, contractors, creatives, trades, online sellers and other independent workers establish taxable profits and keep the filing position aligned with their records. When the business changes, the structure, VAT position and administrative cost should be reviewed together.

  • Trading income, expenses and payments on account
  • Employment income alongside independent work
  • Whether a limited company is appropriate
04

Owner-managed business

Company directors and small businesses

We help directors and owner-managed companies coordinate the accounts, Corporation Tax, payroll, VAT and the director’s personal return. Dividends, salary, benefits and director loan movements need to agree with the underlying company records.

  • Company accounts and Corporation Tax returns
  • Director payroll, dividends and personal tax
  • VAT, employees and changes as the business grows
05

Overseas connections

People with foreign income or overseas assets

We help people living or working in Cardiff report foreign employment, property, pensions, savings and investments. The UK position depends on residence, the source involved, foreign tax paid and the records available from the other country.

  • Overseas property income or pensions
  • Foreign interest, dividends or employment
  • Relief for tax paid outside the UK
06

HMRC contact

People and businesses dealing with HMRC

We help where HMRC has requested records, opened a check or enquiry, raised a penalty, or where an earlier return may be incomplete. The complete correspondence, affected periods and supporting evidence should be reviewed before a substantive reply is made.

  • A compliance-check or enquiry letter
  • Records requests, penalties or disputed figures
  • Undeclared rental, foreign or business income

Understanding the area

Cardiff clients bring together professional, property and small-business tax

The city’s employment mix, private-rental market and owner-managed businesses create tax questions that often cross more than one annual filing.

Professional income

Employment does not always mean PAYE is the whole answer

The Cardiff labour-market profile reflects the city’s substantial professional workforce. Bonuses, benefits, consultancy, investments and foreign income can create additional reporting.

Property ownership

Rental records and disposal records serve different calculations

The ONS profile for Cardiff shows the importance of private renting locally. Rental profits, joint ownership and a later sale each require their own treatment.

Growing enterprises

Directors need company and personal records to agree

The Cardiff Capital Region includes finance, technology and creative clusters alongside a broad small-business economy. VAT, payroll and Corporation Tax should develop with the business.

When more than one profile applies

One enquiry can lead to several connected but separate pieces of work

We establish the sequence and responsibility for each filing before the scope is agreed.

Director + landlord

Company records establish salary and dividends; property records establish rental profit; both may feed into the director’s Self Assessment.

Employee + consultant

PAYE details are combined with trading income and expenses, while VAT or business-structure advice remains a separate decision where relevant.

Landlord + property seller

Annual rent is dealt with in the property pages, while the disposal requires a Capital Gains Tax calculation and its own reporting review.

Company + HMRC check

The original accounts, return and supporting records are reviewed alongside the exact questions and time period in HMRC’s letter.

A clear route from the first message

We identify the person, transaction and filing before requesting records

  3. 03

    Scope

The service, records, exclusions and fee basis are confirmed before preparation.

    Review

You receive the figures and explanation for approval before submission.

Common questions

Before choosing a tax accountant for your situation

You do not need to choose the final service yourself. A concise outline is usually enough to identify the correct starting point.

Still between two categories?

Use the form at the top and choose “More than one of these”.

Describe your position
Do you help individuals as well as businesses?

Yes. We help individuals with personal, property and foreign income tax, and businesses with Corporation Tax, VAT, payroll and HMRC matters. Where the same person is also a director, landlord or sole trader, the connected records can be reviewed together.

What if I fit more than one client category?

Choose the category that relates to the immediate deadline or event and mention the other income, property or company position in your message. We will separate the work into the appropriate services.

Do employed professionals ever need a tax return?

They can. A return may be required because of untaxed income, consultancy, property, foreign income, gains or another reporting obligation. The reason and tax year should be established before records are requested.

Can you help Cardiff landlords with both rent and a property sale?

Yes. Rental profit is prepared from the annual income and expense records. A property sale requires a separate Capital Gains Tax calculation and reporting review, although some ownership and purchase records may be relevant to both.

Do you help new and established small businesses?

Yes. The work may begin with structure and registration for a new business, or accounts, Corporation Tax, VAT, payroll and director tax for an established company. We confirm which items are included in the engagement.

Can you respond to an HMRC letter for me?

Yes, once the engagement and appropriate authority are in place. We first review the full letter, deadline, affected return and supporting evidence before preparing a response for your approval.

Do you only help clients in central Cardiff?

No. We work with clients across Cardiff and South East Wales using telephone, video meetings and secure document exchange. We will explain if a particular matter requires original evidence or another verification step.
