Website enquiries and professional engagements
Terms of Business
These terms explain how enquiries, quotations and professional work are handled. A signed engagement letter provides the specific terms for an accepted assignment.

When these terms apply
These terms govern use of the website, pre-engagement discussions and, where incorporated, the professional relationship. They should be read with the engagement letter, privacy policy, fee confirmation and any service-specific schedule.
If there is a conflict about the agreed professional work, the signed engagement letter and its schedules take priority. Mandatory law and consumer rights continue to apply.
Starting an engagement
An enquiry, appointment, calculator result or quote request does not require either party to proceed. An engagement begins only after identity and acceptance checks are complete and written terms have been accepted.
The engagement will identify the client, service provider, scope, periods covered, responsibilities, fees, VAT treatment and any limits or assumptions. Work outside that scope requires separate agreement.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for giving complete, accurate and timely information; keeping supporting records; reviewing returns and documents; and telling us promptly about errors, changes, HMRC contact and relevant deadlines.
You remain legally responsible for returns, accounts and information filed in your name or for your business. We will not submit a document without the approval or authority required by the engagement.
How we perform the work
We perform the agreed service with reasonable care and skill, using the information and explanations supplied. We may ask questions, reconcile connected figures and explain material assumptions before completing the work.
Tax advice is based on the law and published practice applying to the stated facts and period. We do not guarantee that HMRC or another authority will agree, and an enquiry or challenge may require a new scope.
Records, instructions and deadlines
A deadline can be met only if complete records, authority, answers and approval are received with enough time to perform the agreed work. Sending information shortly before a deadline does not guarantee filing or a response by that date.
Unless the engagement says otherwise, you remain responsible for monitoring and paying tax, penalties, interest and other liabilities by the due date.
Fees, VAT and payment
Guide prices are not binding until the scope is confirmed. The engagement or quote will state whether the fee is fixed, estimated or time-based, what is included, the VAT position, payment dates and any deposit or recurring charge.
Additional records, bookkeeping, periods, entities, corrections, urgency or HMRC correspondence may require a revised quote. We will explain the change before carrying out material additional work where practicable.
Electronic communication and security
Email and online services carry risks including delay, interception, impersonation and malware. Each party should check unusual payment requests or changes of bank details through a known contact method.
Passwords, authentication codes and bank credentials must not be sent through a general website form. Confidential records should use the secure method agreed for the engagement.
Confidentiality and data protection
We keep client information confidential except where disclosure is authorised, needed to deliver the service or required by law, regulation, insurance or a court. Our handling of personal information is explained in the Privacy Policy.
We may use appropriate service providers for hosting, communication, storage, identity checks or specialist support, subject to confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
Suspension and ending the engagement
Either party may end an engagement in accordance with the written terms. We may suspend or stop work where information, authority or payment is missing; instructions are unlawful or misleading; a conflict arises; security is threatened; or professional or legal obligations require it.
On termination, outstanding fees remain payable and each party will address records, access and approaching deadlines as stated in the disengagement communication. We are not responsible for work or deadlines outside the agreed termination arrangements.
Liability and statutory rights
Any service-specific liability provisions will be stated in the engagement letter and must be fair and lawful. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Consumers are entitled to services performed with reasonable care and skill under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Nothing in these terms removes mandatory statutory rights.
Complaints and disputes
Please use the Complaints Procedure so the issue can be investigated and answered. If the engagement letter identifies a professional body or another external route, you may also have the rights described there.
Changes, governing law and jurisdiction
We may update website terms for future use. A change will not retrospectively alter an existing signed engagement unless lawfully agreed or required.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, subject to mandatory rights that allow a consumer to bring proceedings elsewhere.
